Senior adults
Programs. Field Trips. Luncheons. Friendship.
Keenagers
provides wonderful fellowship opportunities for mature adults. Monthly
programs are held at the church and consist of speakers and
entertainment with a luncheon. Trips are scheduled throughout the year.
Participants
take an active role in planning activities and operating the programs.
This is a great way to make new friends as well as nurture
long-lasting relationships. Friends and neighbors are welcome to
participate. Watch the church paper for announcements about activities
and come for the fun.
Fellowship
- The mission of the senior adult ministry program at First
Presbyterian Church is to address the social, physical, spiritual,
educational and emotional needs of individuals 60 years and older. This
group of active older adults, known as Keenagers, meets regularly on
the second Wednesday of every month. This time of
gathering is for learning, entertainment and fellowship. Lunch is
always on the agenda! Additionally, the Keenagers meet one other time
of the month to participate in an outing away from the church.
Outreach -
Recognizing the various and dynamic ages and health conditions within
our church family, there are several ways that we strive to serve our
church community. First, any church member, regardless of age, who is
hospitalized and/or homebound due to illness or surgery is considered
priority for visitation by FPC staff. If at
any time you or anyone else experiences illness, a death in the family,
a tragedy and/or crisis, please contact the church and know that we
are available for support and assistance in any way possible.
For
those who are homebound and/or infirm, a program called pastors’ aides
assists in visitations and/or communication with these individuals.
Pastors’ aides are a devoted group of church members who volunteer
their time and hearts to help keep these church members connected to
our church family.
Resources, education and counseling
Another
aspect of this program is to provide to all church
members resources, education and counseling on a multitude of topics.
Never before have older adults lived so long or been healthy and
active so long. Debbie Reinhardt-Young provides individual counseling and community or one-on-one
education and helps families plan for the
care of their loved ones.
Topics include housing options for
older adults, Medicare and Medicaid, hospice, depression, causes of and
assessments of dementia, care for the caregiver, adult children caring
for parents, end-of-life issues, prescription drugs, home health care
services or locating a physician. This list represents a small portion
of issues that arise as we age, but no issue is insurmountable!
An
additional service recently implemented is a durable medical equipment lending closet. This
resource is available to members who need to borrow equipment on
a short-term basis.
Another resource is a caregivers support group. This group meets periodically after the 10:50
a.m. church service and provides resources and education and
emotional support for those individuals that are caring for a spouse,
parent, family member, friend or child.
